Sore Arms, Skewers & Sweet Corn

The Story

A day in the kitchen when plans change

I swear bowling should count as a workout. My arm felt like a noodle this morning. Every time I reached for something in the fridge it was like my body was laughing at me—“yeah okay champ, try lifting that soy sauce bottle.”

But life’s funny when groceries don’t show up the way you planned. The whole Black Pepper Chicken and Chili-like Chicken plan had to take a raincheck. Missing ingredients? Classic. So instead of moping, I grabbed what was actually in the kitchen.

Enter: teriyaki chicken skewers. Just me, some chicken chunks, a glaze that sticks to your fingers, and skewers that always make dinner feel like a summer BBQ—even if you’re just leaning against the counter in sweatpants. To keep it simple, I roasted up a couple ears of corn. Sweet, juicy, buttery. Sometimes the sides write themselves.

There’s something about a backup dinner turning into exactly what you needed. Easy, kind of messy, and definitely better than scrolling food delivery apps.

Tomorrow? Brownies. That’s the plan, unless my arms fall off from round two of bowling. 😎
